Vampire Hunters
There seem to be relatively large numbers of vampires around at the moment, be they mortal vampires, or even the elusive immortal or inhuman varieties. And where there are vampires, one is not surprised to find vampire hunters. The stories, theories, and claims of vampire hunters seem to vary as much as those of the vampires they persue. Some appear to be sane and rational individuals (or at least, as sane and rational as anyone who wants to drive lengths of wood through people ever is), others seem to border on the psychotic, and others are nothing more than wannabes who have been watching rather too much of certain TV shows.
Vampire hunters have varying beliefs and opinions, and many seem to be great repositories of modern folklore and information about vampires. As with much information of this sort, it is virtually impossible in many cases to distinguish fact from fiction.
Rumours of Hunters Killing Mortal Vampires
The majority of those who consider themselves to be vampire hunters say they would not attack any human vampires, those who often refer to themselves as "real vampires". This is generally either because they regard them to be deluded fools, or because they are aware of the typical activities of mortal vampires (such as feeding only in small amounts from donors) and do not regard them to be a threat.
However, I have spoken to some vampire hunters who regard any sort of vampire or vampiric being as fair game, and I have heard from mortal vampires about instances of being attacked or even injured and killed by purported vampire hunters.
